Bulk trash guide

Baltimore County bulk trash pickup

Baltimore County handles large items through a mix of scheduled residential collection and county drop-off centers. If you own a truck and a free Saturday, the drop-off route is genuinely cheap. If you have a garage full of decades, that Saturday turns into four of them.

How the Baltimore County program works

Program details, item limits and eligibility change. Always confirm the current rules with the Baltimore County Bureau of Solid Waste Management before scheduling around them.

What to expect and verify

  • Residential collection and county drop-off centers are separate paths with separate rules — check both on the county page.
  • Drop-off centers generally accept a wider range of material than curbside collection.
  • Proof of county residency is typically required at drop-off locations.
  • Appliance and scrap metal are handled as recyclable streams rather than mixed waste.
  • Contractor and renovation debris is not part of the residential program.

What the program will not take

  • Liquid paint, stain and solvents
  • Gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze and propane tanks
  • Pesticides, pool chemicals and cleaning chemicals
  • Asbestos, lead debris and other regulated materials
  • Medical, biohazard and sharps waste
  • Tires beyond posted limits, in most programs

What actually happens on Baltimore County jobs

This part is from our own work in the market, not from a rulebook.

Local realities

  • Towson and Catonsville homes usually have a driveway and attached garage, so the carry is short — the volume is the problem, not the access.
  • Split-level laundry and basement utility rooms mean appliances come up half a flight before they reach daylight.
  • August and December student-rental turnovers near campus generate more volume than any drop-off run can handle.
  • Sheds and detached garages hold the material people forget to count when they plan a DIY haul.

When hiring a crew is the better call

If none of these apply to your job, use the free program. We would rather be honest than sell you a truck you do not need.

Hire a hauler when

  • The volume is more than a pickup truck and a weekend can move.
  • The material is heavy — appliances, exercise equipment, a safe, a piano.
  • You do not have a truck, a trailer, or a second person to lift with.
  • A rental turnover needs to be cleared and re-listed on a deadline.

What you get that curbside cannot give you

  • In-home removal — nothing has to reach the curb first.
  • One visit for the whole job instead of item-capped appointments.
  • Photo documentation of the property before and after.
  • Metal recycling, donation routing where accepted, and a weighed transfer-station ticket on debris loads.
